EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
' Artesian Environmental Consultants (Artesian) installed three monitor wells at 1045 West Charter
Way, Stockton, California The purpose of the investigation was to establish the lateral extent of a
hydrocarbon plume in the groundwater and shallow soil on the property The groundwater and
soil had been Impacted from underground tanks which were removed from the property In August,
1988
' Three soil borings, designated as B-1 through B-3, were drilled on the property on April 30 and
May 1, 1992 The soil borings B-1 through B-3 were drilled to depths of 45 feet, 45 feet and 43
feet, respectively, below ground surface All three bonngs were drilled Into native material
Groundwater was encountered in all the wells at approximately 35 feet below ground surface The
soils were logged by Matthew H Walraven, Artesian Project Geologist, who is under the
supervision of a California-registered geologist Soil samples were collected at least every 5 feet
for hthologic, hydrologic and characterization and possible chemical analysis The soils were
' screened with a photoiomzation detector (PID), an instrument used to organic vapors Vapors rn
were detected In all three soli borings No soil staining was observed in the soil cuttings or cores
Borings B-1 through B-3 were converted to monitor wells MW-4 through MW-6, respectively
Soil Analysis
Soil samples were below detection hmits (ND, non-detect) for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPH-g) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) for soil samples in
borings B-2 and B-3 Borehole B-1 contained up to 17 ppm TPH-g at 25 5 feet below ground
surface Boring B-1 also contained BTEX levels as high as 190 parts per billion (ppb) at 30 feet,
' 90 ppb at 30 feet, 22 ppb at 30 feet and 780 ppb at 30 feet, respectively
Groundwater Analysis
MW-1 and MW-2 are currently being bailed for free product once a week by the client These
wells were not sampled due to their ongoing liquid hydrocarbon content
The three newly installed wells were developed and all of these wells in addition to MW-3 were
' sampled on May 15, 1992 (data forms are in Appendix F) Groundwater samples
were below detection hmits (ND) for all analyses in MW-5 Analyses of the groundwater
' monitoring well water in MW-3, MW-4 and MW-6 detected the presence of TPH-g, benzene,
in
I00 Shoreline Hwy, Suite 295 B • Mill Valley, CA 94941 • (415)381-6456 FAX (415) 389-0423
