• r <br />• <br />16 April I997 <br />AGE -NC Project No 95-0121 <br />Page 8 of 9 <br />42 INSTALLATION OF IN-SITU AIR SPARGING POINTS <br />The following procedures will be performed for the installation of air sparging points <br />I Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health <br />Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for <br />Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U S Coast <br />Guard and U S Environmental Protection Agency, October 1985 <br />2 Notify the San Joaquin County Environmental Public Health Services - Environmental Health <br />Division (PHS-EHD) 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while securing proper <br />city/county soil boring or well permits <br />3 Air sparging locations will be marked at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground <br />Service Alert (USA) check of underground utilities or pipes <br />4 Advance seven soil probe borings to a total depth of approximately 30 feet bsg using a <br />Geoprobe 5400 probing unit equipped with 1 125 -inch diameter probe rods Soil <br />boring/probing locations are depicted on Figure 7 <br />. 5 All probing rods will be cleaned prior to boring advancement <br />6 Complete each soil probe boring as an an-sdu air sparging point Each soil probe boring will <br />be completed using 31/2 -feet of 3/8 -inch diameter stainless steel screen from an approximate <br />depth of 26 5 to 30 feet bsg Polyethylene tubing (3/8 -inch diameter) will be used to provide <br />infected air from surface grade to the sparge point A filter pack will be installed utilizing glass <br />beads (50-100 mesh) from depths of 25 to 30 feet bsg, while a bentonite plug will be placed <br />from depths of 20 to 25 feet bsg Each point will then be backfilled to surface grade utilizing <br />Portland Type II cement IAS infection point construction diagrams are depicted in Figure 8 <br />4 3 CONFIRMATION SOIL SAMPLING <br />The following procedures will be performed for the advancement of confirmation soil borings <br />I Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health <br />Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for <br />Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U S Coast <br />Guard and U S Environmental Protection Agency, October 1985 <br />2 Notify the San Joaquin County Environmental Public Health Services - Environmental Health <br />Division (PHS-EHD) 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while securing proper <br />city/county boring permits <br />
