hydropunch sample taken from auger hole "B", directly beneath the
removed waste oil tank TPH as gasoline was below detection
limits in the water sample from auger hole "B" & also from MW -2 &
MW -3, see PLATE XXII-E for details
CONCLUSIONS
Based upon the results of all of the data collected to date, the
following conclusions appear to be valid
1 Except for the minor amounts of toluene, xylene, & TRPH
encountered in Auger holes "A"" & "C" at 6161" (refer to TABLE IX,)
soil contamination appears to be restricted to depths below 26"
in the eight soil borings placed on the property Groundwater
was encountered above 25" bgl during this work, which indicates
the soil contamination may be due to changes in water levels, and
not indigenous to the soils Some soil contamination remains in
the area where the septic tank system was removed
2 Laboratory analyzes of water samples from the four monitoring
wells, summarized on TABLE XI, revealed minor amounts of benzene
in MW -3 & MW -4, varying amounts of touluene in MW -1, MW -2, &
MW -4, and xylene in MW -1, MW -2, & MW -4 TPH as gasoline was only
detected in MW -1, and TRPH as diesel was measured only in MW -4
These figures suggest that there are two sources of contamination
on the property, one associated with the removed diesel tanks,
and another in the area south or west of the shop building
3 Hydropunch water samples obtained from auger hole "A"
revealed very high levels of BTEX and TPH as gasoline, TRPH was
below detection limits Maps drawn of lines of equal concen-
trations of BTEX & TPH-G (PLATES XXII-A thru XXIII-E,) show the
anomalously high levels found in that water sample This data
supports the conclusion in paragraph 2 above, (more than one
source of contamination,) although without additional data, it is
not possible to clarify the problem
RECOMMENDATIONS.
After reviewing of all of the data obtained to date, the
following recommendations are made concerning this site
1 The four monitoring wells should be purged, sampled and
tested on a quarterly basis until sufficient data is collected to
determine what additional work is needed If possible, the
monitoring well placed in the southeast corner of the property by
Nomellini Construction Co should be included in this program
This should allow better definition of the extent of groundwater
14
