Hunter & Associates 2220 Loma Vista Dr <br /> Registered Geologists ENVf�-?js r► TAS <br /> Petroleum & Mineral Appraisers A� t�e,� t HEA1_14cramento, CA 95825 <br /> R!!CE (916) 972-7941 <br /> 96 OCT 24 PM2, FAX (916) 972-1683 <br /> � p <br /> October 21, 1996 <br /> ' Joel Weiss, Engineering Geologist <br /> CRWQCg, Central Valley Region <br /> ' 3443 Routier Road, Suite A <br /> Sacramento, CA 95827-3098 <br /> Ref 1145 W Charter Way, Stockton, CA <br /> ' We have enclosed a copy of a report titled <br /> ERIM <br /> COVERING SOIL & GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION AND NSECONDREPORT QUARTER 1996 <br /> MONITORING EVENT" for the above property Rather than prepare <br /> two separate reports covering the work done in July (installing <br /> MW-6, 7, & 8 & performing the second <br /> er mo <br /> wells, ) and the installation and sampllingtof MWn9tdoneginf all 8 <br /> ' September, we have combined both tasks in one report Although <br /> this delayed the second quarter report, it allowed us to prepare <br /> a more thorough analysis of the work done on the site <br /> MW-9, which was placed on the JM Equipment Co site <br /> Charter way, at 1245 W <br /> encountered extremely high levels of gasoline <br /> components in both soil and groundwater The owners of the <br /> property, Geo Properties, Inc , have stated that to their <br /> knowledge no UST' s are on the property A physical inspection by <br /> our staff revealed that there are no dispensing pumps or evidence <br />' of any tanks Forklifts are fueled by propane from an above <br /> ground tank at the rear of the property A study of enlarged <br /> aerial photos of the area did not identify any pumps, although <br />' the quality of some of the photos was not very good <br /> Mr John Welch, attorney for Mr Miles, had written your office <br />' on October 4, 1996, explaining the owners position on additional <br /> soil excavation at this time All known UST' s have been removed <br /> from the site along with several hundred cubic yards of spoil <br /> from several locations . Four soil borings and 10 soil/water <br />' probes have been placed on the property, and 8 monitoring wells <br /> have been installed The remaining minor amounts of impacted <br /> soil remaining on the site are in areas where groundwater <br />' contamination exists, and removal is not justified until the <br /> water has been remediated. The source of the extremely high <br /> levels of gasoline in both the soil and groundwater in MW-9 at <br /> 1245 W Charter Way needs to identified and assessed since that <br /> contamination has migrated down-gradient onto the Miles property <br /> Until that work is done, further assessment work on our client ' s <br /> Property is not justified <br /> We will continue quarterly monitoring of all 9 wells pending <br /> • results of the remediation project at Nomellini and identifii- <br /> 1 <br /> I <br />
