NANCY NELSON
PAGE 2
Therefore, based on the above, please propose new locations for the two additional
monitoring wells so that they will provide better overall information on the upgradient
and lateral extent of the groundwater plume.
In addition, soil borings should be installed in and around the former tank pit area to
determine the full spatial distribution of contamination in the soil. Should site conditions
warrant, these borings should be converted into soil vapor extraction test wells during
this mobilization. Feasibility studies can then be conducted to determine the most cost
effective corrective action for this site. Achieving all these tasks in the initial phase
reduces overall costs and results in a more timely closure for the site.
Please submit to PHS-'EHD by March 10, 1997, a brief addendum to the workplan
which addresses the above noted modifications along with a completed drilling permit
application with the associated $89.00 fee. The work may be scheduled to begin after
a permit to drill is issued by this office. Please provide PHS-EHD at the number noted
below with at least 48 hours advance notice prior to initiating work at the site.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss this letter in more detail, please contact
Linda Turkatte, Senior REHS, at (209) 468-3441.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
soul A • Lc R V
A.
