w
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
J. M. EQUIPMENT
1245 West Charter Way
Stockton, California
Since the early 1970's, J.M. Equipment has operated an equipment
sales and service building at the 1245 West Charter Way location.
The previous owner operated a John Deer facility and installed two
underground storage tanks for gasoline and diesel in the early 1970's,
which were removed in the early 1980's. During the investigation of
the Independent Trucking facility (1145 West Charter Way), soil and
groundwater contamination was found at the J.M. Equipment site.
Further Soil and groundwater sampling indicated that a release had
occurred. The responsible parties (J.M. Equipment and Geo
Properties Inc.) were required to investigate the extent of the release
and clean up the site.
To address the contamination, four large diameter borings will be
installed and backfilled with pea gravel around a well casing that will
allow air (oxygen) to enter the soils, which will help to reduce
contamination. As needed, air or other compounds could be
introduced through the wells to speed up the process. It is expected
that the cleanup will take 24 months. The impact to the public for this
work is minimal, as site work is on private property under agency
oversight.
When the contamination is cleaned up, the site will continue to be
used for commercial purposes.
