25 October 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0259
4.0. PROCEDURES
R '
4.1. ADVANCEMENT OF SOIL PROBE BORINGS
The following procedures will be performed for the installation of probings:
• Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
• Soil probe boring locations will be marked at least 48'hours in advance for an Underground
Service Alert (USA) check of underground utilities or pipes
• Advance two (2) soil probe borings at the site. Each probing will be advanced to a depth of
approximately 20 feet using a van-mounted Geoprobe probing unit equipped with 1.125-inch
{ diameter rods. Proposed probing locations are depicted on Figure 2.
• Decontaminate sampling equipment in an Alconox solution and rinse with water prior to each
sampling run.
'I
• Obtain soil samples at 20 feet bsg. Samples will be collected using a Geoprobe soil sampling
assembly pre-loaded with four 1.125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves.
• Preserve soil samples in the second brass sleeve by covering both ends with Teflon sheets,
capping, and sealing with tape.
Label and log samples on a chain-of-custody form.
i
• Store samples in a chilled container and transport to a'State-certified laboratory for analysis.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for HVOCs, BTE&X and MTBE in accordance with
EPA methods 8010, 8015M and 8020/602.
• Monitor soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization
detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
• Log soil sample duplicates in accordance with the UM.tied.Soil Classification System.
1
• Backfill each probing to surface grade using Portland!Type II Cement.
i
4.3. REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of probing, sampling and laboratory analysis, a report will be prepared summarizing
results of the work performed. The report will include recommendations for additional investigation
or remediation, if necessary. The report will be in a format acceptable to the PHS-EHD and
CVRWQCB and will be reviewed and signed by a California!!Registered Geologist.
i
1
i
