' e 40th BROWN AND CALDWELL Anniversary 1947-1987
CONSULTING ENGINEERS Service • Excellence • Efficiency
October 15 , 1987
Mr . Harlan Knoll
San Joaquin County Local
Health District
1601 East Hazelton Avenue
Post Office Box 2009
Stockton, California 95201 017-3346-02/4
Subject: ARCO Service Station 595, 6100 North
Highway 99, Stockton, California
Dear Mr . Knoll:
Enclosed are the analytical results of soil samples taken during
waste oil tank removal at the subject site. The site location is
shown on Figure 1. The sampling location is shown on Figure 2. The
analytical results are summarized in Table 1.
On September 25 , 1987 , W. F. Lewis Construction Inc. (W. F. Lewis)
removed one 280-gallon steel waste oil tank from the subject site.
The tank had little corrosion and was intact during its removal.
There was no evidence of waste oil leakage. The tank was emptied of
remaining waste oil and filled with dry ice prior to its removal.
W. F. Lewis personnel triple rinsed the tank and hauled it, intact,
to Triangle, Inc. , of Sacramento. San Joaquin County Local Health
District (County) and Brown and Caldwell (BC) personnel were on site
during tank removal. The soil generated during waste oil tank
excavation and removal was stockpiled on site, pending sample
collection.
On September 25 , 1987 , BC personnel collected one soil sample from
the bottom of the excavation at a depth of 8 . 0 feet. The sample was
collected under the direction of County personnel. After the soil
sample was collected, the stockpiled soil was used, under the
direction of County personnel, to backfill the excavation. The
excavation was backfilled on September 25, 1987.
The soil samples were submitted to California Department of Health
Services-certified Eureka Laboratories, Inc. , in Sacramento. The
samples were analyzed for solvents (U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) Method 8010) , total petroleum fuel hydrocarbons (EPA
8015 , modified) , benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTX) (EPA 8020) , and
polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (EPA 8080 PBCs zonly) .
V T'
6 Li
0
O'-IT 7
723 S STREET SACRAMENTO,CA 95814 • (916)444-0123 ENVI ROM ENTAL HEALTH
FERMIT/SERVICES
