As detailed in our 10 and 29 June 1988 letters to Gordon Boggs
of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board - Central Valley Region
(RWQCB-CVR) our scoPe of work for this phase of the excavation closure was to:
1) Excavate hydrocarbon-bearing native soil adjacent to the southern and western
walls of the excavation to a depth of about 24 ft;
2) Collect native soil samples to confirm that all hydrocarbon-bearing soil was
removed;
3) Backfill the excavation with clean fill.
A brief summary of the field procedures and analytic results for this work and
conclusions and recommendations are presented below.
NATIVE SOIL EXCAVATION
Between 26 and 28 July 1988, approximately 150 cubic yards of hydrocarbon-bearing
soil was removed from about half-way along the southern wall to about half-way along
the western wall of the excavation to a depth of approximately 24 ft. Consistent with
ground water occurring at a depth of about 23 ft in the three adjacent ground water
monitoring wells, the lower foot of the removed soil was saturated. The removed soil was
i
A Division of AguaTierra Associates Incorporated
