Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Munoz:
This letter+ summarizes the results of the past subsurface investigations
1' oval of 4 underground fuel storage tanks
conducted in association with the rem
located a` the Safeway Meat Packing facility, 1111 Navy Drive, Stockton,
y California (Figures i and 2). The tanks were removed by Precision Industries
(PI} rf Stockton, California, between 6 and 10 July 1987. Weiss Associates
k: (WA} ubsurface
of Oakland, California, conducted betweenrlApphl s1e987°andsSeptember
investigation and soil stockpile sampling
i :988. Safeway
T On 7 and 8 April 1987, KA supervised the drilling of soil borings an
collected soil samples around the underground storage tanks. The location
of borings B-1 through B-9 are indicated in Figure 2. In the area of the
P tanks the site is underlain by low permeability silts and clays with
. Groundwater was encountered at about
discontinuous layers of clayey sand
16 to 17:5 ft below grade. Photoionization detector (PID) readings during
soil in all
drilling indicated that volt 91e hTfe°highess concentration were present n of volatile
borings except 8-1 and
hydrocarbons was detected at 700 ppmv in the sample collected at 19.7 ft
from the bottom of boring B 8. One sample from each boring except B-9 was
analyzed by Brown and Caldwell L.boratories (BBC) of Emeryville,
California, for total fu,l hydrocarbons (TFH) and benzene, toluene and
xylene (BTX). Analytic results are presented in Table 1. TFH at 1100
ppm were only detected in the sample collected from boring B-2 at 20.7 ft
below grade. BTX were not detected in any samples.
- - -- - - - -
Between 6 aril i0 June-1987, -the-four-underground fuelstorage tan s were
removed by PI. 41A personnel were present to observe the removal. tooter
M-
lrr
tis
