s' <br /> RP V <br /> Q <br /> WEISS ASSOCIATES C.onsullinl in Geology 5 Gcohydrologil <br /> i <br /> 04 29.38 AlcOury Sff-1, Oakitcrui, GA 9.1609 415-455,1100` <br /> 13 November 1987 <br /> Julian Munoz, Plant Engineer i <br /> Safeway Stores, Inc. <br /> 1111 Navy Drive <br /> Stockton, CA 95024 <br /> Dear Mr. Munoz: <br /> This letter summarizes the tank backfill sampling conducted by Weiss <br /> Associates (UTA) at the Safeway meat packing facility at Jill Navy Drive, <br /> Stockton, California and presents a proposal and cost estimate for treatment <br /> of the backfill material. <br /> Four 12,000-gallon underground diesel tanks located along the southern <br /> property line adjacent to Navy Drive were removed between G July and 10 July <br /> 1987 by Precision Industries (Pl) of Stockton, California. Approximately 400 <br /> cubic yards of pea gravel that served as backfill material for the tanks ate <br /> temporarily stored in the tanl: excavation. <br /> T-wo sawplr:s of the pea gravel were collected by WA Geologist Joseph <br /> Theisen on 25 August 1987. Sample locations, labeled PG-1-west and PG-2-east, <br /> i are shown on Figure 1. The samples were collected in steam-cleated brass <br /> ed with aluminum foil and plastic end raps, hellnetira';ly sealed <br /> tulles, capp <br /> under chain oC <br /> with duct tape , labeled and r(tfrigerated• and transported <br /> euaC.oci_v to Brown and Caldt,ell Analytic Laboratories of Ernetyvillc, CaliCnrnia <br /> (P,&C) . The samples were analyzed by Modified EPA Method 8015, Gas <br /> Chromatography/Flame lonizatiort Detection (GC/FID) for total fuel hydrocarbons <br /> ('TFIIC) and U^.n ene, toluene anti xylenes (BTT) . Detection limits for GC/FID <br /> are10 ppm Cnt- TrIIC acid 0.5 ppm for BT%. Analytic results for the samples <br /> were below detection for Bti TX anindicated 130 pptn TRIC for PG-1-east and 180 <br /> ppm TFIIC for PG-1-west. Copies of rhe chitin-of-custody form and laboratory <br /> analytic t•-port for tilesc sample:: are presenced as Attachments A and B <br /> respectively. <br />
