Approximately 400
cubic yards of pea gravel that served as backfill material for the tanks ate
temporarily stored in the tanl: excavation.
T-wo sawplr:s of the pea gravel were collected by WA Geologist Joseph
Theisen on 25 August 1987. Sample locations, labeled PG-1-west and PG-2-east,
i are shown on Figure 1. The samples were collected in steam-cleated brass
ed with aluminum foil and plastic end raps, hellnetira';ly sealed
tulles, capp
under chain oC
with duct tape , labeled and r(tfrigerated• and transported
euaC.oci_v to Brown and Caldt, ell Analytic Laboratories of Ernetyvillc, CaliCnrnia
(P,&C) . The samples were analyzed by Modified EPA Method 8015, Gas
Chromatography/Flame lonizatiort Detection (GC/FID) for total fuel hydrocarbons
('TFIIC) and U^.n ene, toluene anti xylenes (BTT) . Detection limits for GC/FID
are10 ppm Cnt- TrIIC acid 0.5 ppm for BT%. Analytic results for the samples
were below detection for Bti TX anindicated 130 pptn TRIC for PG-1-east and 180
ppm TFIIC for PG-1-west. Copies of rhe chitin-of-custody form and laboratory
analytic t•-port for tilesc sample:: are presenced as Attachments A and B
respectively.
