I <br /> SECTION 3 <br /> CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> The objectives of this investigation were to identify whether or not <br /> hydrocarbons have spread from the former UST location on the <br /> Safeway property. Consistent with measured groundwater direction <br /> over the past year, diesel in the groundwater has spread in a <br /> southerly direction from the tank site. <br /> While the upper 25 feet of soil south of the tank r 1 � ' <br /> pp site are clean, a sandy � <br /> layer below that depth has carried the hydrocarbons off of Safeway <br /> property under Navy Drive. <br /> Samples collected from the sandy material below 25 feet in depth <br /> indicated elevated concentrations of diesel south of the former tank <br /> locations. Groundwater samples collected from borings B-16, B-19, <br /> and B-21 clearly show the spread of the diesel fuel in a southerly <br /> direction. l <br /> Two of the five soil borings (B-20 and B-21) were converted into four- <br /> inch PVC monitoring wells (MW-5 and MW-6, respectively). Three of <br /> the existing monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3) were <br /> E abandoned because of dropping water. levels and unfavorable r <br /> locations. r <br /> Based on the past reports and the information gathered during this <br /> investigation, ERM-West recommends the following: k <br /> L <br /> • Develop and sample the three monitoring wells on a quarterly <br /> basis for TPH-Diesel. Quarterly sampling should begin in h <br /> February 1991. k <br /> • Monitoring well MW-6 must .be sampled once for Coliform j <br /> Bacteria because of its proximity to a main sewer line. <br /> • Continue to monitor the direction of groundwater movement. <br /> � � f <br /> U1 <br /> 3-1 <br />
