(Delta), as, authorized by Ultramar Inc., destroyed a domestic
water supply well at the above-referenced site on October 14, 1992. Destruction of the well was a
prerequisite to connecting facilities at the site to the City of Lodi water supply system. The work was
approved by your office under Well Permit No. 92-3447. The location of the site is shown in
Figure I and the previous location of the domestic water supply well is shown in Figure 2.
Construction details reported to Delta indicated that the well was 144 feet deep with a 6-inch
diameter, unscreened, open-bottom steel casing to a depth of 120 feet. After removal of the wellhead
assembly and submersible pump, the well was found to be free of obstructions to a depth of 142 feet
below grade. The depth to water in the well was approximately 57.5 feet below grade. The well
was destroyed by backfilling with a 9 sack sand-cement grout. The grout was emplaced from the
bottom up by pumping through a tremie pipe to prevent dilution or bridging. The well was grouted
to within 1.5 feet of the ground surface.
The calculated volume of the well was approximately I cubic yard. The actual volume of grout used
was approximately 3.5 cubic yards, indicating that the well and void space in the adjacent formation
were adequately seated.
Delta Delivers Solutions
