FAX:9161638-8385
January 7, 1994
Mr. Kenneth Earnest
Ultramar Inc.
525 West Third Street
Hanford, California 93230
Subject: Quarterly Soil Vapor Extraction Report, Fourth Quarter 1993
Beacon Station No. 696
800 Highway 12
Lodi, California
Delta Project No. 40-90-839
Dear Mr. Earnest:
Delta Environmental Consultants, Inc. (Delta), has been authorized by Ultramar Inc. to operate a soil
vapor extraction system at the subject site (Figures 1 and 2). The purpose of the system is to
remediate gasoline-impacted soils underlying the site. Petroleum vapors in the soils are vented
through ten soil vapor extraction wells (MW-2, MW-5, MW-7, MW-10, MW-19, MW-20, MW-24,
MW-28, MW-34, and MW-35). Locations of the soil vapor extraction wells are shown on Figure 2.
Evax Technologies, Inc., began operation of the soil vapor extraction system utilizing a 100 standard
cubic feet per minute catalytic oxidizer on site in August 1991, and continued to operate the system
until September 21, 1992. During catalytic operation it has been estimated that approximately 9,094
pounds of hydrocarbons and 24 pounds of benzene were removed from soils underlying the site.
Operational data collected prior to September 21, 1992, has been presented in Evax Technologies,
Inc., "Soil Vapor Extraction Quarterly Monitoring Reports". On September 21, 1992, Delta was
authorized to remove the existing catalytic oxidizer and install two 2,000-pound vapor phase granular
activated carbon columns in series as the abatement device for the soil vapor extraction system. The
two 2,000 pound carbon columns were replaced with two 200 pound carbon columns on
November 1, 1993. The soil vapor extraction system flow diagram is presented in Figure 3 and the
system detail is illustrated in Figure 4.
During the fourth quarter of 1993 it is estimated that 297 pounds of hydrocarbons were removed from
soils underlying the site. Since the system began operating in August 1991 approximately 10,176
pounds of hydrocarbons have been removed from soils underlying the site. Calculations of extraction
-And emission rates since September 24, 1992, are presented in Enclosure A.. .
i
Delta Delivers Solutions
