1117 Lone Palm Avenue,Suite 201
YA Modesto,California 95351
209-579-2221
Fax:209-579-2225
ADDOCIaTEs INC.
Cherokee Lane appears to have been successful and remediation using ozone technology has been
implemented. Ozone pilot testing results associated with 515 West Charter Way and 601 East Miner
Avenue were not observed in the regulatory files reviewed by ATC.
The depositional environment responsible for the existing geology in the region and hence the geology of
the subject site and the aforementioned three additional sites, is believed to be similar and primarily
consisted of alluvial processes such as overbank deposits of erosional sediments originating from the
nearby highlands of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. These processes deposited unconsolidated clays, silts,
sands,and gravels.
Review of technical reports associated with all four sites indicates the geology is generally similar. The
thickness of the vadose zone at the subject site is approximately 24.5 feet and the thickness of the vadose
zone is approximately 22 feet,27 feet, and 58 feet at 515 West Charter Way,601 East Miner Avenue, and
16 Cherokee Lane, respectively. A generalized description of the geology at the subject site is presented
on Page 2 of this report. The geology at 515 West Charter Way has been reported to generally consist of
clayey silt to silty clay from the ground surface to approximately 30 feet bgs. Sand lenses were reported
between 15 to 18 feet bgs. Silty sand with gravel and silt was reported from approximately 30 to 45 feet
bgs and was underlain by sand to a depth of approximately 58 feet bgs. Sand with lenses of silty clay and
silty sand was reported to extend from approximately 58 to 62 feet bgs and was underlain by silt to a
depth of approximately 74 feet bgs. Gravelly sand and sandy silt was reported from approximately 74 to
80 feet bgs.
Geological information in the file associated with 601 East Miner Avenue was sparse. The geology at this
location was reported to consist of clay and clayey silt to approximately 25 feet bgs. Clay and silty clay
with lenses of silty sand and sand were reported from approximately 25 feet bgs to 120 feet bgs.
The geology associated with 16 Cherokee Lane was reported to consist of clayey and sandy silt to a depth
of approximately 13 feet bgs and was underlain by silty to gravelly sand to approximately 23 feet bgs.
Sandy silt and silt was reported from approximately 23 to 26 feet bgs and was underlain by silty sand and
sand to approximately 40 feet bgs. Silt was reported from approximately 40 to 45 feet bgs and was
underlain by interbedded silty sands, sands, silts, and minor clay to approximately 70 feet bgs. Sand was
reported from approximately 70 to 79 feet bgs and was underlain by silty sand to at least 80 feet bgs.
Copies of well logs associated with 515 West Charter Way and 16 Cherokee Lane are included in
Appendix A. Copies of well logs associated with 601 East Miner Avenue were not obtained during
review of this regulatory file.
Based on the similarities of the reported geology associated with the subject site and the three additional
sites, ATC recommends foregoing bench scale testing at J&L Market, and proceeding with ozone pilot
testing.
SCOPE OF WORK
This Workplan has been prepared to conduct an ozone sparging pilot test. The pilot test data will be
utilized to determine the feasibility of ozone sparging technology and to design a groundwater
Pilot Testing Workplan—J&L Markel ATC Associates Inc.
S:...\28589\Reports ATC Project No.54.28589.0001
4
