EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Groundwater monitoring was performed at 8125 S El Dorado Street (J&L Market) on
June 9, 2004 After the depth to the static water level was measured, the standing water
was purged and water samples were collected from the three monitoring wells The
samples were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in the gasoline and diesel
ranges, volatile aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylene), gasoline oxygenates (methyl tertiary butyl ether, etc ), and the lead scavenger
1,2-dichloroethane
` Methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) and 1-2 DCA concentrations again remained constant
at concentrations of 2-20 parts per billion in monitoring'wells JLM-3 and JLM-5 The
MTBE concentration in JLM-4 doubled from 26 to 55 ppb and the TBA concentration
quadrupled from 11 to 46 ppb In addition, diisopropyl ether (DIPS) was detected for the
first time, at 1 ppb This apparently confirms that oxygenates have migrated toward this
well since the third quarter of 2003
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH-gasoline and TPH-diesel) and volatile aromatic
concentrations (BTEX) were slightly higher or lower this quarter than in the previous
quarter, but the variations are probably not terribly significant Overall, the TPH and
BTEX concentrations continue to decline gradually from those that were measured when
the wells were first drilled in 2002 The concentrations change seasonally, and begin
rising toward an annual peak late in the first quarter or early in the second quarter before
declining to an annual low during the third quarter of the year
The depth to groundwater on June 9 was 30 feet, which is 3 feet deeper than it was in
April Groundwater flow returned to the southeast, which has been the predominant
direction The hydraulic gradient on June 9 was 0 0049 ft/ft
1
