EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Groundwater monitoring was performed at 8125 S El Dorado Street (J&L Market) on
March 26, 2003 After the depth to the static water level was measured, the standing
water was purged and water samples were collected from the three monitoring wells The
samples were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in the gasoline and diesel
ranges, volatile aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylene), gasoline oxygenates (methyl tertiary butyl ether, etc ), and lead scavengers (1,2-
dichloroethane
In the two impacted wells, the laboratory reported gasoline and BTEX at concentrations
that were four to twelve times higher than two months ago, reversing the decline that had
been reported at the beginning of the first quarter of 2003 TPH-g concentrations of 350
and 4800 parts per billion were reported in JLM-3 and JLM-5, and total BTEX
concentrations of 39 and 1130 parts per billion were detected in these wells
Concentrations of dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), methyl-tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), and
tertiary butanol (TBA) have remained low in both wells All analytes remained or
declined below the detection limits in the third well (JLM-4)
The depth to groundwater on March 26 was between 24 5 and 25 feet, which is a few
inches less than it was in January In the previous three quarters, the water level was
lowest in JLM-3 and the groundwater flow direction was southeast toward this well In
March, the flow direction apparently rotated to the northeast, because the water elevation
was lowest in JLM-4 Using the three-point method, a groundwater elevation map was
constructed and a hydraulic gradient of 0 0013 ft/ft to the northeast was calculated
- 1
