EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Groundwater monitoring was performed at 8125 S El Dorado Street (J&L Market) on
August 19, 2002 After the depth to the static water level was measured, the standing
water was purged and water samples were collected from the three monitoring wells The
samples were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in the gasoline range and
diesel range, volatile aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylene), gasoline oxygenates (methyl tertiary butyl ether, etc ), and lead scavengers (1,2-
dichloroethane)
Both gasoline and diesel were detected in the water samples from two of the three wells
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons were reported at 83 and 1900 parts per billion in the
gasoline range and at 120 and 670 parts per billion in the diesel range In JLM-3, the
concentration of both analytes was much lower than in June, whereas the concentrations
1n JLM-5 were nearly the same as in June All BTEX compounds, MTBE, TBA, and 1,2-
DCA were also detected in JLM-5 at concentrations that were nearly identical to those
reported in June, whereas the BTEX concentrations were much lower in JLM-3 and were
below the detection limit in JLM-4 The,MTBE and 1,2-DCA concentrations in JLM-3
were very similar to those detected in June
The depth to groundwater on August 19 was between 28 and 29 feet, which is two feet
deeper than it was in June The calculated elevations of the static water level were used to
construct a groundwater elevation map and calculate the hydraulic gradient The data
confirm the southeastward groundwater flow direction that was reported in the June
report Although JLM-3 is currently the most downgradient well, JLM-5 is presently the
most contaminated This suggests that the center of the contaminant plume is located
closer to JLM-5 than to JLM-3, and that further investigation in the central and western
portion of the site is warranted
i
5
1
