Hazelton Avenue E`NV r i,_, E:--'- AL HEALTH
Stockton, CA 95201 I ER°6111T/8ERViCE.S
Dear Ms. Cottula:
RE: PG&E's Tracy Former Manufactured Gas Plant Site
As I recently informed you, PG&E plans to begin a remedial
investigation during the week of September 12, 1988 at our
service center located near the intersection of Franklin and
Acacia Streets in Tracy, California. The investigation has been
designed to determine whether any residues exist on-site from the
operation of a manufactured gas plant during the period 1928-30,
as well as the extent of total petroleum hydrocarbons in
subsurface soils and ground water that may have originated from
the former underground tank.
It is our understanding, based on conversations with Mr. David
Carls of your staff, that a substantial backlog of applications
pending before your agency to conduct similar work has resulted
in an estimated 30- to 60 -day processing time for issuance of
permits. Mr. Carls suggested that PG&E may wish to authorize
staff overtime to review the workplan and applications. Such
overtime would increase the fees normally charged to PG&E for
review of this material by $35 per hour.
In the interest of expediting the application process, PG&E
hereby authorizes overtime work in your review and processing of
the attached material, in an amount not to exceed eight hours.
If additional time should be required, please inform us so that we
can evaluate the need for any additional authorization.
We plan to start our investigation as soon as possible after
receiving approval from your department and other appropriate
regulatory agencies. If you have any questions concerning this
matter, please contact Mr. Robert C. Karfiol at (415) 972-7095.
1Z i
RCG:sar
Attachment
