SOP <br />Revision 6 <br />1/8/1988 <br />Page 5 of 13 <br />2.1.2 SOLID SAMPLES <br />2.1.2.1 Volatile Organics <br />Soil samples should be taken with minimal disturbance to avoid <br />volatilization whenever possible, an undisturbed core sample should be <br />taken by use of hollow, 6 inch metal tube sealed with aluminum foil and <br />plastic caps. However, if sampling environment does not allow the use of a <br />metal tube the soil should be transferred rapidly into a wide mouth glass <br />pint jar, the soil packed tight, and sealed with a teflon lined cap. <br />2.1.2.2 General Organics <br />Wide mouth pint or quart glass jar with teflon lined cap should be <br />used for collection of soil samples for extractable organics analysis. The <br />size should be determined the number of tests to be performed. <br />2.1.2.3 Inorganics and Metals <br />Wide mouth pint jar, glass or polyproplyene, with teflon lined lid <br />should be used for collection of soil samples for inorganic and metal <br />' analysis. Soil samples for organo metal and mercury analysis should be <br />taken in metal tubes or wide mouth glass jars with teflon lining. In the <br />latter case, the soil should be packed tightly, with minimal headspace or <br />air pockets. <br />2.1.3 <br />AIR SAMPLES <br />Air samples for detezmination of fixed gases (N2, 02, CH31 CO2) are <br />collected in tedler bags. Samples for organics may be collected in either <br />' tedler bags and adsorbant tubes. Samples for asbestos testings are <br />collected in cassettes with filters. <br />11 <br />48 <br />11 <br />
