Table 4
Unstaffed Substations
PG&E owns and operates numerous substations located throughout PG&E's system. The substations serve as control,
monitoring, and protection points which enable PG&E to operate the electrical system.
Most of the substations are located on land owned by PG&E. The substations range in size from a few hundred square feet to
several acres. Each PG&E substation is surrounded by a security fence with a locked gate to restrict access.
Unstaffed Natural Gas Facilities
PG&E owns and operates numerous unstaffed compressor, dehydrator, drip, regulating, and valving facilities throughout its
system. The stations serve as the control points for the gathering, transmission or distribution of natural gas.
Most of the stations are located on land owned by PG&E. The sites range in size from a few square feet to several acres. These
facilities may occur on PG&E property, on privately-owned property or within a public right of way. The locations may or may not
be fenced, but access is restricted.
Unstaffed Hydroelectric Powerhouses and Associated Facilities
PG&E owns and operates numerous powerhouses and equipment storage areas that are used to generate hydroelectric power.
Hydroelectric power is generated at a powerhouse when water falls a vertical distance and powers a turbine generator. Each
powerhouse site is surrounded by a security fence with a locked gate to restrict access.
Unstaffed Water Conveyance Systems and Associated Facilities
PG&E owns and operates water conveyance systems utilizing dams, canals, flumes, penstocks, gates, weirs, and other operating
equipment and areas used in the transportation of water. PG&E also maintains environmental enhancement projects like fish
screens and ladders for migratory species.
Unstaffed Fuel Oil Handling Facilities
Hercules Pumping Station/Fuel Oil Pipeline- 4200 San Pablo Avenue, Hercules, CA
The facility pumps oil products in the Richmond to Pittsburg Fuel Oil Pipeline. However the pipeline was drained, cleaned and is
now filled with water. Most of the oil storage tanks have been drained to the lowest possible levels. It consists of eight above
ground storage tanks, a control building, pipeline and pumping equipment. The pipeline runs from the Chevron Refinery in
Richmond to Mirant's Power Plant, located in Pittsburg. The pipeline consists of 12 and 16-inch diameter pipeline and associated
equipment. The Pump Station facility is surrounded by a security fence with a locked gate to restrict access.
Unstaffed Customer Support Facilities
PG&E has numerous types of equipment distributed throughout its system. Installation and maintenance of this equipment can
generate wastes. Examples of electric support equipment are utility poles, street lights, transformers, switches, capacitor banks,
service shops, and meters.
While some of this equipment may be located on PG&E property, much of it is sited in rights-of-way owned by others.
Remediation/Construction Project Sites
PG&E has numerous remediation sites and construction projects, where contamination from past activities or spills involving PG&E
equipment or vehicles may be removed for proper disposal. These project sites may occur on PG&E property, on third party
privately-owned property, or within a public right of way.
AB1448_2019 Attachments revised.xls Page 6 of 8 Rev. 3/19
