2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The objectives of the proposed scope of work are to assess the lateral extent of impacted
groundwater, establish>a groundwater monitoring capability at the site, and survey possible
sensitive receptors in the site vicinity. To achieve these objectives, three on-site groundwater
monitoring wells will be installed, these wells and the on-site-domestic well will be monitored and
sampled on a quarterly basis for at least one year, and a survey of possible sensitive receptors
within 2,000 feet of the site will be conducted.
2.1 Planning and Permitting
Prior to initiating fieldwork, a site-specific health and safety plan will be prepared according to 29
CFR 1910.120. The health and safety plan will include safety procedures for work to be performed,
chemical hazard information, site safety officers, and a medical emergency location.
To perform the proposed scope of work, monitoring well permits will be obtained from PHS/EHD.
Since all of the drilling will be conducted on-site, neither off-site access agreements nor
encroachment permits will be required. At least two working days prior to field work, Ramage
Environmental will notify PHS/EHD so that any inspections can be scheduled. Underground
Service Alert will also be notified to perform a utility clearance inspection.
2.2 Groundwater Monitoring Well Installations
To evaluate the lateral extent of impacted groundwater and to establish a groundwater monitoring
capability at the site, three on-site groundwater monitoring wells will be installed, and sampled on a
quarterly basis for at least one year. The proposed wells will be installed east, west and northwest
of the former USTs (Figure 2). The well to the northwest will be positioned between the former
USTs and the operating on-site domestic well.
2.2.1 Monitoring Well Construction and Development
The wells will be installed in 8-inch diameter soil borings drilled by a truck-mounted drill rig,
equipped with hollow stem augers. The wells will consist of approximately 20 feet of two-inch
diameter, Schedule 40, flush-threaded and machine-slotted (0.020-inch) PVC well screen. Since
46, groundwater is anticipated at approximately 80 feet bgs, the well screen interval will extend from
approximately 70 to 90 feet bgs. Blank PVC casing will thread into the top of the well screen and
extend to the surface.
8
