1 2 2 Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation On June 16, 1999, Ramage Environmental submitted Work Plan, Environmental Site Investigation On July 20, 1999, PHS/EHD approved the work plan On November 18, 1999, Ramage Environmental supervised the drilling of one soil boring (SB-1) to a depth of 83 feet, at the north end of the middle former UST (Figures 2) Laboratory analysis of sod samples collected during drilling indicated that except for trace concentrations of toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes, impacted soil at this location is concentrated above 25 feet bgs Groundwater was encountered in SB-1 at a depth of 78 5 feet Using a temporary well, groundwater was purged and sampled from SB-1 Results of the laboratory analysis indicated that groundwater was impacted with 130 micrograms per liter (µg11) of TPH-as-gasoline, 1 9 µgll of toluene, 1 4 µg11 of ethylbenzene, and 9 5 µg/l of xylenes Benzene, oxygenate compounds, and ' 1,2-dfchloroethane (1,2-DCA) were not detected These results are summarized in Table 2 On November 18, 1999, Ramage Environmental sampled groundwater from the on-site domestic well The laboratory results, summarized in Table 2, indicated that the domestic well had not been impacted by gasoline constituent compounds On January 6, 2000, Ramage Environmental documented the results of the drilling and sampling in Environmental Site Investigation Report Due to the proximity of the domestic well to the impacted groundwater, Ramage Environmental recommended that three on-site monitoring wells be installed and sampled on a quarterly basis for at least one year, and that a sensitive receptor rsurvey be conducted On January 27, 2000, PHS/EHD approved these recommendations and requested that this subject work plan be submitted ' 1 2 3 Monitoring Well Installations On March 30, 2001, Ramage Environmental published Monitonng Well Installation Report, which documented the permitting, installing, surveying, monitoring and sampling of three on-site ' monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3), and the sampling of the on-site domestic water supply well The well locations are shown on Figure 2 • 6
