• Based on the results of the sod samples collected from the angled sod boring D-2, the vertical
' extent of impacted soil appeared limited to shallow subsurface soil The soil sample collected at
14 feet bgs from D-2 only contained a concentration of MTBE of 0 0054 mg/kg The sod sample
collected at 23 feet bgs from D-2 did not contain detectable concentrations of MTBE, BTEX or
TPH-as-gasoline TPH-as-gasoline and BTEX were not detected in either sod sample collected
from D-2 Only a concentration of 0 016 mg/kg of MTBE was detected in the soil sample collected
' at 20 feet bgs from D-1 TPH-as-gasoline and BTEX were not detected in either of the soil
samples collected from D-1
' On February 12, 1998, under PHS/EHD observation, L&M Construction excavated approximately
60 cubic yards of impacted soil from the vicinity of the west dispenser island The depth of the
excavation ranged from approximately 7 feet near the former dispenser to approximately 12 feet
beneath the former underground product distribution piping The excavated soil was stockpiled
' on site and remediated by passive aeration Soil sampling and analysis to confirm the excavation
limits were not recorded in the regulatory case file
' On October 1, 1998, under PHS/EHD observation, FGL Environmental re-sampled the sod
stockpile Two soil samples were collected from the accumulated soil stockpile for laboratory
composite and analysis The composite soil sample was analyzed for TPH-as-gasoline and
BTEX by Modified EPA Method 8020/8015 and for oxygenates by EPA Method 8260 Based on
the results of the soil sample analyses, PHS/EHD allowed the sod stockpile to be spread on-site
' On October 1, 1998, under PHS/EHD observation, FGL Environmental also sampled the on-site
domestic well The groundwater sample was analyzed for TPH-as-gasoline and BTEX by
' Modified EPA Method 8020/8015 and for oxygenates by EPA Method 8260 None of these
compounds were detected in the water sample Well construction details were not available The
results of the domestic well groundwater analyses are summarized in Table 2
On March 25, 1999, Ramage Environmental published Underground Storage Tank Environmental
' Corrective Action Summary Report documenting the tank removal and subsequent corrective
actions completed at the site Based on the analytical results from the sod samples collected from
beneath the north end of the middle former UST, Ramage Environmental recommended that a
' work plan be developed to evaluate the extent of impacted soil and groundwater
5
