Antonia K. J. Vorster
-3 13 June 1988
Well Installation
The well installation discussion does not mention how the type of
sand or screen size will be determined. The determination should
be made in the field or based on preliminary exploratory work so
that the sand and screen used are as representative of the actual
conditions as possible.
Soil Sample Collection
The proposed soil sampling calls for logging the boreholes by
collecting samples 1 . 5 foot intervals during the construction of
each monitoring well . Chemical analysis is proposed only 5 foot depth sample from each borehole, p p Y for the
Continuous logging or at least logging at all changes in
lithology as well as the 5 foot intervals
, will more accurate description of the local hydrogeolo y. A a much
analysis should be done at ever change as well not A chemical
Y
uppermost 5 feet. More thorough to g Just the
g logging and chemical analysis
will allow for a more accurate assessment of what, if any,
additional work is needed and how to proceed with that work.
Water Sample Collection
The plan states that the pH, temperature
and conductivity will
be measured at the end of well purging only. The pH
temperature
and conductivity should be measured from the start
Of well purging and continue until these parameters have
stabilized and at least 3 well volumes have been extracted. The
remainder of the water sampling plan appears to be acceptable.
Report Preparation
The proposed final report should be adequate as long as the
modifications are incorporated into the work plan and the results
included in the report. The final report should include a
summarization and tabulated data in the main body of the report.
Triple E could include the resu
this report also. lts of the domestic well survey in
' , . - ..-L:.. ._. ,....
