a
Blockbuster VideolYellow Submarine
Site Assessment/Remedial Recommendations
Page 5
Apparently, this tank contained only waste motor oil. A cross section through
the waste oil tank excavation is shown on Plate 3. The exact extent and depth
of this plume is not known, at present. This plume appears to contain only
motor oil and no BTX&E components.
_.r unc Water ContaminatiVji Poteotial., In order to determine the ground water
contamination potential of the remaining soils contamination at this site, we
used an analysis from the Luft Manual. 'fables 2 - 3 through 2 - 8 of the
manual were used to analyse the leaching potential of these contaminated soils.
These worksheets are presented in Appendix G.
Tables 2 - 4 (Environmental FAte Worksheet) were used to determine the
cumulative contamination level of kerosene, xylenes ands ethyl benzene for the
contamination in the northwest portion of the property. This analysis shows:
Cum. Cont:. Acceptable
Compound Level Depth W jA_VV I
Kerosene 1,029pnm 5.0 NA
Xylenes 1.1Ippm 5.0 9ppm
E.Benzene 0.66ppin 5.0 loppm
Primary MCL for drinking water in California is 1.75ppm for Xylene and
0.680ppm for Ethyl Benzene (CVRWQCI3, 1989). 'There is no MCL for
kerosene or motor oil, Fea;eral or State.
4.0 CONCLUSIONS
There is still soils contamination near the corner and in the area of the waste oil tank,
In summation, it appears that there is contaminated soil remaining in place at this site.
This soil has the potential to leach Xylene and Ethyl Benzene into theground :eater at
leachate concentrations that are below primary MC-L's for drinking water.
_ In,the waste oil tank area, the maximum depth: has not been determined. We do know,
however, that these soils contain no Benzene, Tolune, Xylene or Ethyl Benzene.
Therefore, there appears to be no leachate potential for these compounds from these
-- soils.
