• II+
YELLOW SUBMARINE
140 West Harding Way
'. Stockton, California
PETROLEUM HYDROCARBON IMPACTED SOIL
Volume Calculations
On Site Impacted Soil
The contaminant plume was divided into sections based on points where a sample was
collected and analyzed. The cross sectional area was calculated for each section. Each grid
is 5 feet by 5 feet. A maximum width of 20 feet was assumed for the plume. Sections were
assumed to be consistent across this width. The actual concentrations of hydrocarbons would
decrease over this distance, therefore, the calculated volume of petroleum hydrocarbons is
expected to be higher than the actual volume.
An average concentration of petroleum hydrocarbons in each section was determined from
sample analysis data. The concentration was multiplied by the volume for each section to
determine the volume of hydrocarbons.
Section Volume Concentration Weighted Volume
(ppm) Volume Petroleum
Grids Cubic feet fe
• A 21/2 1250 3.32 8.3 0.0042
B 1% 833 0.025 0.04 0.0000
C 3 1500 83.21 249.63 0.12
D 1% 833 1.2 2.0 0.0010
E 21/3 1167 343.59 801.7 0.40
ii 14/3 667 0 0 0
G 3/4 375 400 300 0.15
H 14/3 667 4.5 6 0.0030
1 2/3 333 1000 666.6 0.33
1 11/3 667 824.27 1099 0.55
Total -161/2 8292 189 3133.27 1.57
Total Volume =16.58 grids
. 1 grid =_ 5' x 5' x 20' width
W 500 ft3
16.58 x 500
Total Volume = 8,292 ft3
