' YELLOW SUBMARINE
140 West Harding Way
Stockton, California
PETROLEUM HYDROCARBON IMPACTED SOIL
Volume Calculations
On Site Impacted Soil
The contaminant plume was divided into sections based on points where a sample was
collected and analyzed. The cross sectional area was calculated for each section. Each grid
is 5 feet by 5 feet. A maximum width of 10 feet was assumed for the plume based on nearby
borings. Sections were assumed to be consistent across this width. The actual concentrations
of hydrocarbons would decrease over this distance, therefore, the calculated volume of
petroleum hydrocarbons is expected to be higher than the actual volume.
An average concentration of petroleum hydrocarbons in each section was determined from
sample analysis data. The concentration was multiplied by the weight for each section to
determine the weight of hydrocarbons.
Section Volume Weight Concentration Pounds Gallons
(Grids) Tons Pounds (ppm) Petroleum Petroleum
A 21/2 23.15 60,185 3.32 0.20 0.030
B 12/3 15.43 40,107 0.025 0.0010 0.0002
C 3 127.78 72,222 83.21 6.01 0.90
D 12/3 15.43 40,107 1.2 0.048 0.0072
E 21/3 21.61 56,173 343.59 19.30 2,89
F 11/3 12.35 32,099 0 0 0
G 3/4 6.94 18,056 400 7.22 1.08
H 11/3 12.35 32,099 4.5 0.14 0.022
I 2/3 6.17 16,049 1000 16.05 2.40
1 11/3 12.35 32,099 824.27 26.46 3.96
Total161/2 153.56 399,244 188.8 75.37 11.29
rotal Volume =16.58 grids
1 grid = 5' x 5' x 10' width
= 250 fl?
16.58 x 250
Total Volume = 4145 ft3
153.5 cubic yards
