2.2 Additional Investigation, August 1993
To further assess the impacted soil in the area of MW-4, two additional borings were drilled,
B17 and B18. Boring B17 was drilled at an angle of 30° from vertical and extended to a
' vertical depth of 38 feet. B17 terminated at a depth of 40 feet at a point approximately 5
feet north of the sidewalk on Harding Way. Boring B18 was drilled to a depth of 40 feet,
approximately 20 feet south of MW-4. MW-5 was installed approximately 20 feet southwest
of MW-3, which was properly abandoned.
Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples from B17 and B18 at depths between
15 and 43 feet. The laboratory results of the soil samples are summarized in Table 1.
TABLE 1
ANALYTICAL RESULTS oSOIL SAMPLES
Yellow Submari
' August 1993
(mg/kg)
Sample Sample TPH as TPH as Ethyl-
ID Vertical Gasoline Diesel Benzene Toluene benzene Xylene
Depth
B17-18 15.6 450 370 ND 0.17 1.1 3.0
' B17-23 19.9 4000 2000 ND 7.3 37 9
B17-33 28.5 630 99 ND 1.2 6.3 5.2
1 B17-43 37.2 2.1 ND ND ND ND 0.013
B18-25 25 1.2 ND ND ND ND ND
B18-35 35 55 28 ND ND 0.082 0.13
B18-40 40 ND ND ND ND ND ND
MW-5-40 40 ND ND ND ND ND ND
mgA-8 = parts per million(ppm)
ND=Not Detected
' 2.3 Additional Groundwater Investigation
Hydrocarbons were detected in groundwater samples from MW-4 and MW-5 during the
' September 1993 monitoring (see Table 3).
