i
APPENDIX C
CORRECTIONS TO FIGURE 4
OF
WHF ENVIRONMENTAL'S
MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION REPORT
November 24, 1992
WHF Environmental prepared a Monitoring Well Installation Report on
November 24 , 1992 . Figure 4 of this report was a cross section
through the former dispenser island in the northwestern corner of
the property. The section incorporated data from exploration
trenching performed in February 1991, along with new data from the
installation of monitoring well MW-4 . The data from February 1991
had originally been reported in the March 16, 1991 Site
Assessment/Remedial Recommendations report and revised slightly in
the April 2 , 1992 Phase II -- Remedial Investigation Results
Addendum report.
Figure 4 of the November 1992 report was used as the basis for
' concluding that residual soil contamination is present in the
northwestern part of the site, and in locating soil borings B17 and
B18 to investigate this contamination in August, 1993 . During
subsequent report preparation, GeoAudit discovered several
r inconsistencies between Figure 4 of the November 1992 report and
the March 16, 1991 and April 2 , 1992 WHF reports with regard to the
location of borings and soil samples. Therefore, in revising Figure
' 4 and presenting it as Figure 3 for the Third Quarter Report of
1993 , these errors have been corrected to agree with the locations
as presented in the original (March 1991 and April 1992) reports.
1) Sample 13D-18 ' should be located at a depth of 18 feet, or 8
feet directly beneath sample 13D-101 . In Figure 4 , it was
located at a depth of 14 feet, 5 feet north of 13D-101 .
2) Samples 13D-10 ' and 13D-18 ' should have been located 20 feet
south of sample 13C-17 . 51 . In Figure 4, 13D-18 ' is located 10
feet south of 13C-17 . 5 ' and 13D-10 ' is located 15 feet south
of 130--17 . 51 . (See Figure 4 of WHF' s April 1, 1992 report) .
' 3) MW-4 , which is located approximately 4 feet east of the line
of cross section, should be projected into the section at a
point 19 feet north of sample 13C-17.51 . In Figure 4, it was
projected in 26 feet north of 13C-17. 51 . This location would
be 7 feet beyond the property line, in the sidewalk.
4) In addition, the locations of borings 8B, 13A, and 13B are
also included in the revised figure, to help clarify the
boundaries of the plume of contaminated soil in the
excavation.
