Blockbuster Video!Yellow Submarine
Phase II Remedial In.vestigaiton Results -addendum
Page 2
I
The re-excavation was terminated at 22 feet, as we could not go deeper without terrac-
ing into the excavation, and we were also concerned that we would need shoring on the
north and west sides to'prevent the sidewalk or street from caving into the excavation.
The Health Department asked that we estimate the amount of contaminated soils that
were left in place. Based upon the way the vein was tapering off and narrowing, our
estimate is that less than two (2) cubic yards of contaminated soils were left in place.
IOur drawings will show an open zero line in the north side and part of the bottom of
the excavation.
Overburden from the excavation and trenching activities were put bar-k into the excava-
tion. We took both lab samples and on-site PID samples to satisfy ourselves that the
' _„'• soils being replaced were clean. All of the contaminated sails on site, including some
from the waste oil tank area, became part of the spoils bile.
Additional questions raised were securing the site, securing drums, and recovering the
spoils.
'rhe site is as secure as we can reasonably make it, with a chain link fence around the
property.
The tarp on the spoils pile has been replaced several times and as of March 4, 1992, it
is still covered. The drums containing the cuttings are alloand is -no reason to secure
them at this point. NDs are based upon all soil samples taken from the drilling activi-
ties (which were ND), therefore, the soil in the drums are also ND. Water pumped
form the wells have been ND and water previously contained on site has been dumped
on site.
Since the December meeting, the building on site has been demolished and removed.
The waste oil line has been removed and disposed of under manifest, a copy of which
is enclosed in this report. We have also enclosed a copy of the previous manifests for
the waste oil tank and fuel lines previously disposed of (Appendix K).
The samples from beneath the waste oil line were observed by the County Health
Department and the results of those analyses are enclosed in this report (Appendix 1).
Re-sampling of the spoils pile was also observed by the County and those results are
also enclosed (Appendix 1).
r
