Phase II Site Assessment Work Plan <br /> CARANDO MACHINE WORKS <br /> 420 North Madison Street, Stockton, California <br /> 1.0. INTRODUCTION <br /> At the request of the City of Stockton Housing and Redevelopment,Advanced GeoEnvironmental, <br /> Inc. (AGE)has prepared this Phase II Site Assessment Site Assessment Work Plan for the property <br /> at 420 North Madison Street, Stockton,California(the site).The site has been utilized for industrial <br /> purposes for at least 40 years; at least one underground storage tank system was historically located <br /> on the property. The proposed work is being performed as part of due diligence for a property <br /> acquisition by the City of Stockton. The location of the site is illustrated on Figure 1. A plan of the <br /> site is illustrated on Figure 2. <br /> This work plan as required by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD) <br /> for the procurement of a soil boring permit.For reference,this plan is in accordance with AppendixA <br /> to Tri-Regional Recommendations - Reporting, dated 30 August 1991, prepared by the Central <br /> Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board for the investigation of underground storage tank <br /> (UST) sites. <br /> 2.0. BACKGROUND <br /> The site is located in a topographically flat area of west-central Stockton, between Fremont Street <br /> and Steamboat Levee. The area surrounding the site has been utilized primarily for light-industrial <br /> and commercial purposes. For purposes of this Phase II, the City of Stockton parking lot <br /> immediately east of the Carando Machine Works facility, will be included in the investigation <br /> (Figure 2). The Carando property is nearly entirely developed as warehouse; the City of Stockton <br /> parking lot currently has no improvements beyond nominal landscaping. <br /> 2.1. HISTORICAL SITE USAGE <br /> A review of historical aerial photographs and Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps for the subject property <br /> indicates that at least a portion of the site has been utilized for industrial purposes (machine shop) <br /> for at least 50 years.In 1952,the north portion of the Carando site is listed as having a small service <br /> station with"gas and oils";it is possible that underground storage tanks may have been present. The <br /> City of Stockton parking lot appears to be an electrical shop. <br /> 2.2. REGIONAL GEOLOGIC/HYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING <br /> The site is situated within the southern portion of the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of <br /> California, a large, elongate, northwest trending, asymmetric structural trough; the northern and <br /> Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc. <br />
