r^
J
J
2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION _ `J
The Site is part of the Banner Island Redevelopment Project, which includes the area north of the
Stockton Channel bounded by North Lincoln Street to the west, West Fremont Street:to the north and
Commerce Street to the east(Figure 1). Environmental issues associated with the48nner Island Project
are being overseen by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTS.C). The SJCEHD is
continuing to oversee four areas with UST releases at the Banner Island Project, including the adjacent
Carando Site, under their local oversight program (LOP). =>
Until March 2004, the Site was occupied by several buildings. During March 2004, We buildings were
demolished in preparation for redevelopment. Prior to the City's purchase, the Site-had been vacant for
several years and had previously been operated as an auto repair facility for Chase.Chevrolet. This site was
originally developed in the early 1900s and re-developed sometime in the 1950s for use as an auto repair
facility. Areas between buildings are mostly unpaved; however, there are some areas which are paved or
covered with concrete slabs. UST remediation activities have taken place at the Site, since the late 1980's.
The Site is enrolled in the State Underground Storage Tank cleanup fund.
J
3.0 PROJECT ORGANIZTION AND DESCRIPTION OF TASKS
3.1 Project Organization
The following summarizes the project contacts, client, Treadwell & Rollo project personnel and
subcontractors associated with the project.
