Yy W
k,
yds
fly
{ 2.8.1 Two soil borings will be drilled to
installation of groundwater monitoring we lls.vi he
:hese wefr lls
will be completed at a depth of approximately
' et
below grade. Two additional20 foot oil borings will35 belocated adjacent to tank pit A. Drilling will be
conducted by Osterberg and Stewart under C57 license no.
446670 using a hollow stem auger rig. The proposed boring
and well locations are plotted on Figures 2 and 3. The
wells will be constructed of two inch diameter F480 PVC
i
screen/casing and completed as shown on Figure 5.
2.8.2 Drill cuttings will be logged continuously for
characterization o_' ^ontamination and soil type using the
Unified Soil Classification System (Appendix TI) .
Descriptions of soils encountered and monitoring well _
construction details will be recorded on boring/well IOQ2
'
'"f and included within the assessment report. Soil samples
will be collected at five foot intervals.
Sample
Wit collection will begin at a depth of five feet; no soil
samples collected below the groundwater table W-11 be
submitted for laboratory analysis.
Soil samples collected will be monitored for organic
i:. vapors by placing a small amount of representative
material in a sealed container, tnea measuring the
concentration of volatiles in tate container head space of
# the container with a photoionization detector
(
calibrated to benzene. The values obtained at each
measurement point will be recorded on the boring logs.
+ Soil cuttings generated during the drilling ,process Will
also be screened for the presence o:E volatile organics
constituents using a photoionization 6atector.
Soil samples submitted for analysis will be selected based
on obvious signs of contamination (i.e. PID readings and
soil discoloration). The sample recording the highest PID
reading will be analyzed to determine contamination
levels. Two "clean" confirmation samples, representing a
10 foot interval, will be collected and analyzed to
determine the vertical extent of soil contamination. Due
to the high probabilitythat
groundwater has been impacted
r at this site, analytical results for the soil sample
¢ collected from the top of the capillary fringe will hq of
particular importance since any free productpreC_Axt wsll
collect along this boundary. The samplF, will be
collected, preserved and transported une'ar chain-of-
custody protocol in accordance with Wa,erWork's Soil
Sampling Protocol (Appendix III). Select :3mples will be
analyzed for benzene, toluene and xylenes (b^X) and total
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH).---as..._gasaa.ine-by--E A--8020-and- -- --- -- -- - -
methodology, respectively. in addition, t a samples
- f collected from the borings around tank g Pit A will be
analyzed for oil and
grease by EPA.met;had 418.1.
t
 3
 y
