Cherokee Lane
Lodi, CA 95240
WORK PLAN: Soil Vapor Extraction Well Installation and Soil Vapor Extraction/In-Situ
Air Sparge Pilot Test for Petroleum Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil and Ground Water
DATED: January 2010
PREPARED BY: Stephen G. Muir Consulting Geologist and Geophysicist
APPROVED: IN
ADEQUATE AND NECESSARY ELEMENTS OF THE WORK PLAN [H&S 25296.10 (c)(3)]:
1. Two dual completed vapor extraction wells (VEW) will be installed on-site. Two 2
inch diameter casings will be nested in a common soil boring. In each of the two
borings, one casing will be screened in the shallow vadose zone and one casing will
be screened in the deeper vadose zone near and above the static water level.
2. Prior to well construction, selected soil samples will be collected from the soil borings
for laboratory analysis of: TPH-g, BTEX, gasoline oxygenates, and gasoline
additives in accordance with USEPA Methods 8015M and 8260B.
3. The two soil vapor extraction wells will used for a Soil Vapor Extraction/In-Situ Air
Sparge Pilot Test (test).
4. A vacuum will be applied to each of the zones for a specified time during the test.
5. An existing on-site well (PT-MW2) is proposed for air injection during the test.
6. Effluent air samples will be collected in Summa canisters at specified intervals
during the test and analyzed for: TPH-g, BTEX, and MTBE in accordance with
USEPA Method TO-3.
7. Granulated activated carbon will be used to remove influent air contaminants before
air is discharged into the atmosphere.
8. Surrounding wells will be monitored for vacuum and air transfer to establish a radius
of influence. The results will be utilized for remedial system engineering and design
in a Corrective Action Plan.
9. The duration on the test will be for approximately 20 days; a 5 day test on each
screened area.
10. A SVE/IAS Pilot Test report will be prepared and submitted to the EHD and
CVRWQCB. An EFD will also be uploaded into the SWRCB's GeoTracker.
