i
Ct of Lodz Downtown Investigation C1995+)
In 1995 the city of Lodi began to investigate a widespread distribution of solvents and cleaning agents
present in the central portion of the city This investigation has developed into an extensive groundwater
i
investigation The extent of this survey is depicted on Figure 2 The former Parmar Texaco site is included
within the investigation and along the current eastern border of the greater Lodi groundwater investigation
site This investigation has lead to numerous groundwater monitoring wells and soil borings being placed
within this area No direct investigative work has occurred on the former Parmar Texaco property but has
occurred within several blocks of the site
No other work is known to have occurred on the property
2.2 Current Invests ation Objectives
A workplan to conduct an expanded site assessment evaluation of the site was submitted to PHSE14D on
April 12, 2003 and approved by PHSEHD on April 20, 2003 The current phase of investigative work at
the site was divided into three primary tasks These tasks were designed to complete the following
objectives (1) Develop a worker health and safety plan that reflects the current knowledge of expected
environmental-related conditions at the site, (2)Drill and sample a series of soil borings to a depth of 40
to 60 feet bgs across and adjacent to the former fuel dispensers and USTs The placement of these soil
borings and associated groundwater grab samples was designed to confirm the horizontal and vertical extent
of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination on the site, and, (3) Completion of three new groundwater
monitoring wells to determine the horizontal extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the V
groundwater zone at the site Additional objectives included the conduct of a Sensitive Receptor Survey
and preparation of a Site Conceptual Model and preliminary Problem Assessment Report
The basic assumption regarding the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in soil and groundwater beneath
the site is that an ongoing unauthorized release of gasoline fuel was most likely occurring during the life
of the service station(1950 to 1984) Groundwater flow direction of the shallow aquifer has typically been
to the southwest or south (Figure 5) based on the city of Lodi groundwater investigations Information
gathered from previous investigations at the site and the quarterly monitoring events in 2a6 and 3`d quarter
of 2003 at the site substantiates this
Miam\n1EnvummenW\PannuTexaco\Repods\SAR1203 wpd Page 10
