Mr. Nathan Crum - 2 - 15 June 2009
Valley Pacific Petroleum ServiceF
Installation of an off-site well east of MW-13 will commence once site access to the
neighboring property is granted. However, GZA has been unsuccessful at gaining access
despite repeated attempts at reaching the property owner through verbal and written
correspondence.
Starting in the fourth quarter of 2008, biogeochemical monitoring was conducted in four wells
for a year-long assessment of the baseline bioremediation potential to support the
implementation of an air sparge/soil vapor extraction (AS/SVE) pilot study. A fifth well, MW-3
was added during the fourth quarter of 2008. Valley Pacific selected AS/SVE to remediate the
COCs in the groundwater and vadose zone based on the rationale that AS/SVE would likely
enhance the biodegradation potential at the Site by increasing the dissolved oxygen (DO)
levels in groundwater. From upgradient to downgradient, the wells include MW-12, MW-2,
MW-6R, MW-3, and MW-10.
Our comments are presented below.
1. The year-long baseline study will be concluded after a fourth quarter of monitoring is
conducted in July 2009. However, Valley Pacific has not yet conducted a sampling event
for microbial enumeration. Valley Pacific needs to ensure that microbial enumeration
sampling is conducted during the remaining quarter of the study.
2. On 11 June 2009, Central Valley Water Board staff initiated verbal correspondence with
Mr. John Denigris, owner of the property where the installation of an additional well is
proposed. Mr. Denigris instructed me to have GZA call him to arrange for the installation of
the well. I conveyed the message by email to Mr. Greg Stahl of GZA and requested that he
inform me when access is arranged.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, you may contact me at (916) 464-4811 or
betaylor@waterboards a.gov.
BRIAN TAYLO P.G.
Engineering; eologist
cc.
