Two
exploratory geoprobes (GP)were advanced in the former UST area on February 22, 1996.
Analytical results of the soil samples collected were from GP1 at 22 feet below surface grade
(bsg) 2.2 parts per million (ppm) Methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE), and from GP2 at 33 feet bsg 29
ppm MTBE. Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPPH) and aromatic hydrocarbons as
Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX)were not detected. Based on these data,
Enviros proposed in the"Soil Boring Installation Report" dated May 8, 1996 that the vertical extent
of TPPH and BTEX contamination had been delineated and that closure be granted for the site.
The vertical extent of the MTBE in the soil has not been determined. The historical high of depth
to groundwater in this area, recorded in 1986, was approximately 30 feet bsg. Current
groundwater depth is about 50 feet bsg. San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has concluded additional work is necessary in order to
assess the extent of the contamination and potential groundwater impact. Submit-a workplan
which will define the vertical as well as lateral extent of MTBE contamination b tOctr 15, 1998.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at(209)468-0335.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Jeffrey Wong, EHS, Trainee Margam, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: CRWCCB, Central Valley Region - Mark List
c: Cambria Environmental Technologies, Inc. -Joe Neely
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Scrvices
