CAMBRIA
Technical Rationale for Proposed Scope of Work
• The lateral extent fuel oxygenates in groundwater has not been completely assessed
• Quarterly groundwater monitoring data indicate that all onsite wells are impacted by fuel
oxygenates and that offsite investigation is warranted
• Seven groundwater monitoring wells (MW4 through MW-10) are proposed to
investigate the extent of petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel oxygenates in groundwater
Work Tasks
Permits: Appropriate permits for drilling will be obtained from SJCPHS/EHD Shell will obtain
access agreements for the Park and Ride lot west of the subject site and the property south of the
site
Site Safety Plan: A Site Safety Plan will be prepared for field work
Utility Clearance: Proposed drilling locations will be marked and their locations cleared through
Underground Service Alert prior to drilling
Site Investigation: Seven groundwater monitoring wells (MW4 through MW-10) are proposed
at the locations shown on Figure 2 The purpose of these wells is to evaluate the extent of
petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel oxygenates in groundwater The borings will be dnlled with
hollow-stem auger drilling equipment and will be converted to groundwater monitoring wells
Well MW-4 is proposed near the USTs to assess impact to groundwater in the presumed source
area Wells MW-5, MW-b, and MW-7 are proposed onsite, near the property's north, northeast,
and southeast boundaries, respectively Wells MW-8 and MW-9 are proposed in the Park and
Ride lot, west of the site, and well MW-10 is proposed in the field south of the site Wells
MW-5 through MW-10 will assess the lateral extent of petroleum constituents in groundwater
A Cambria geologist will supervise the drilling and descnbe encountered soil using the Unified
Soil Classification System and Munsell Soil Color Charts Soil samples will be collected at five-
foot intervals for description, possible chemical and physical analyses, and organic vapor
screening with a photo-ionization detector (PID) PID readings will be recording on the boring
log for each well
0955 4
