CAMBRIA
Existing Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) SJCPHS/EHD previously recommended
collecting soil samples beneath the existing USTs and states in the March 30, 2000 letter
that this recommendation has not been addressed Soil sample collection beneath USTs
typically is performed when the USTs are removed As mentioned in our September 1, 1999
Site Investigation Work Plan, Equilon Enterprises LLC (the UST owner) does not plan to
remove the existing UST, therefore it is not feasible at this time to collect soil samples from
beneath the UST complex Further, this type of soil sampling is typically performed to
determine the source of the release Cambria's previous investigations have produced
sufficient data to indicate the UST area is the likely source area for petroleum hydrocarbons
and MTBE detected in groundwater at this site
SJCPHS/EHD states in the March 30, 2000 letter that "It is unknown if an active source of
release still exists " The existing USTs at this site could not be acting as an active source as
they have been out of service since late 1998 When they were taken out of service the fuel
was removed from the tanks and the piping system
Report Tables- Apparently there was some confusion about the tables submitted with
Cambria's February 10, 2000 site investigation report SJCPHS/EHD requests in their March
30, 2000 letter that we submit the missing parts of Table 3 There is nothing missing from
Table 3 This table reports additional groundwater chemical analytical data that Blaine Tech
Services, Inc (Blaine) did not include on their Well Concentrations table (in Appendix C of
the report) This reporting format is consistent with the way we have been reporting
groundwater analytical data for the past several years Blaine enters the analytical data in
their Well Concentrations table for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg),
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) by
EPA Methods 8020 and 8260 In addition to the chemical analytical data, Blaine also
reports the sampling date, the top of casing elevation, the depth to water measurement, and
the groundwater elevation Any additional chemical analytical data generated for the site is
then put on a supplemental table, which is prepared by Cambria
Site Conceptual Model- Cambria will prepare a site conceptual model for this site as
requested by SJCPHS/EHD This model will be included in the site investigation report
generated after completion of the work proposed below
Well Survey. Cambria conducted a well survey prior to June 1, 2000 as requested by
SJCPHS/EHD in their March 30, 2000 letter The results of this survey will be reported
either in the site investigation report for the work proposed below, or in a quarterly
monitoring report
0955 2
