C A M B R I A
same event, TAME was detected in wells MW-I and MW-4 at concentrations of 34 and 4 0 ppb,
respectively TPHg, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) were not detected,
although some reporting hrruts were elevated
Based on the analytical results from the CPT borings, SJCEHD requested submittal of a work
plan for further assessment of the lateral and vertical extent of gasoline constituents in
groundwater beneath the site and interim groundwater remediation Cambria subrrutted work
plans on June 5, 2002 and June 21, 2002 and the results of this work are presented below
RESPONSE TO SJCEHD LETTERS
8260 Peaks Report
In correspondence dated July 22, 2002, SJCEHD requested that Shell "conduct a full 8260B scan
and report all peaks for one quarter sampling event annually to monitor for degradation products
of oxygenate compounds " Shell and Cambria are in the process of discussing this request with
the RWQCB Once the matter is resolved, we will discuss this request further with SJCEHD
• Deep Well Installation
In their June 25,2002 letter, SJCEHD approved Cambria's June 5, 2002 Site Investigation Work
Plan and requested the installation of one deep groundwater monitoring well Cambria
responded in our July 24, 2002 Groundwater Monitoring Report — Second Quarter 2002,
concurring that additional deep groundwater sampling is warranted At that time Cambria stated
that we would like to further assess the lateral of extent of the groundwater plume prior to
choosing a location for a deep groundwater monitoring well We also stated that we would
propose a deep groundwater monitoring well in the site investigation report following the
shallow well installations
In correspondence dated October 28, 2002, SJCEHD approves Cambria's request However, the
letter also requests that the deep well be installed no later than January 1, 2003, which does not
allow enough time for a work plan to be submitted and approved, pnor to the well installation
The work plan, proposing a deep monitoring well and discussing the proposed drilling schedule,
is presented below Shell would like to install this well at the same time as the proposed offsite
wells discussed below, and will make every effort to schedule the drilling as soon as possible
•
0955 4
