E
f
k
To date soil samples collected at this site from the excavation sidewalls, bottom and stockpiles
confirm theen
re
p s ce of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination atili or above the detection limits
applied for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons pp y bons (TPH) as gasoline and, diesel including some BTEX
components.
Previous work at this site including excavation revealed L presence of an open 12" well
positioned in the center of the two existing excavations. A vernal directive by PHSIEHD to
Todd Teresi to sample this well for total depth, depth to water, down hole video logging and
examination for free product or sheen and subsequent laboratory analysis (TPH as gasoline and
diesel, BTEX and MTBE at currently accepted detection limits to be approved at the time of
sampling and reflected on the chain of custody) prior to destruction or use of this well was
issued during our December 18, 1995 office meeting. PHSIEHD considers this well to be a
probable vertical migration conduit which may contribute"Ito groundwater contamination and
therefore determining its overall condition is currently the;.highest priority issue for this site.
In order to protect ground water quality and potential future ground water use PHSIEHD
provides this directive to sample the well for the above parameters to be completed no later
than February 5, 1995. PHSIEHD must be present for sampling and observations during
all phases of evaluation not limited to those activities listed above for this site and requests
a 48 hour advanced notification for inspections. Soil types, sand, silt and silty sands observed
in the existing excavations may also act to aid in rapid lateral and or vertical contaminant
migration. Further investigation in the form of soil and groundwater sampling is therefore
required in the vicinity of the existing tank excavations.-
i
Work plans for this site dated January 12, 1996 and an amendment received January 24, 1996 }
have been reviewed. PHSIEHD concurs with the fundamental approach proposed in the
amended work plan. A minimum of three soil borings lis required at this time with the
probability of several more expected to fully delineate the 'soil and ground water plume. Full °
definition is generally required prior to proposing or engaging in engaging activities. Ground
A Division of San Joaquin County Heaith Car'e Services
