0 <br /> SKTH <br /> 'a L 19LAI—Tii <br /> 1 I a f k <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION <br /> 27 <br /> April 17, 1996 <br /> 96731 <br /> Mr Harlin Knoll <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> P O Box 2009 <br /> Stockton, California 95201 <br /> Subject Workplan for Additional Subsurface Investigation at 757 E 11th Street, Tracy, <br /> California <br /> Dear Mr Knoll <br /> Smith Environmental Technologies Corporation, on behalf of BJJ Trucking, Inc the responsible <br /> party of the above referenced site, and H J Heinz Company, the property owner, has prepared this <br /> document to serve as a workplan for additional subsurface investigation at the above referenced site <br /> (Figure 1) The purpose of the proposed work is to evaluate potential residual soil contamination in <br /> the vicinity of the former tank excavation and progress this site toward closure <br /> • SITE HISTORY- <br /> On March 30, 1989, an underground diesel tank was removed from the site Soil contamination was <br /> noted in the sidewalls of the excavation Groundwater was encountered in the tank pit at a depth of <br /> 9 5 feet below surface grade Soil samples were collected from each wail of the pit Due to elevated <br /> concentrations of diesel constituents in the samples (Table 1), San Joaquin County Public Health <br /> Services required further assessment of soil and groundwater contamination at the site <br /> On January 18, 1990, pursuant to a workplan dated May 8, 1989, four soil borings (NMI, B2, B3, <br /> and B4) were advanced to depths ranging from 7 to 19 5 feet below grade for the purposes of site <br /> characterization and the installation of a groundwater monitoring well The well and former soil boring <br /> locations are shown on Figure 2 Soil samples collected from boreholes B2, B3, and B4 near the top <br /> of the capillary fringe at 6 0 - 6 5 feet below grade were analyzed for benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, <br /> and xylenes (BTEX), and total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) Petroleum hydrocarbon <br /> analytes were not present in the soil samples collected from the borings <br /> On January 30, 1990, MW l was monitored and developed in accordance with RESNA's (formerly <br /> WaterWork) Well Monitoring and Development Protocols (Appendix III, Problem Assessment <br /> w 19673 Nsiwkp doe 1 <br /> 1260 Graphics Drive Modesto,CA 95351-1502 (209)579-2221 Fax(209)579-2225 <br /> Engineering Consulting Remediation Construction <br />
