Mr Harlan Knoll February 11, 1992
RE Heinz Facility - Tracy Page 2
The water samples collected from wells MW2 and MW3 were analyzed for benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), by EPA method 8020, total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHG), and total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHD) by modified EPA method 8015
Dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in either MW2 and MW3 Analytical data
1s presented on Table 2 The laboratory data sheet, chain-of-custody, and monitoring data are
included as Attachment 1
Since the area has been newly capped with asphalt and most of the contaminated soil has been
removed, any remaining contaminated vadose soils would not appear to be a significant threat
to groundwater Therefore additional excavation is not warranted, particularly considering the
physical restrictions involved
RESNA Industries, in conjunction with our client, has attempted to locate the missing monitoring
well (MW1) but was unsuccessful A 150 square foot area was excavated in an attempt to locate
the well Also a metal detector was utilized in an attempt to locate the well on two separate
occasions We do not believe further action toward locating the well is warranted
(correspondence to San Joaquin County Public Health Services dated January 30, 1992)
The next monitoring will take place in March of 1992 We will again include gradients from
the three previously mentioned sites to verify the local gradient direction A monitoring report
will be submitted when all the sampling analytical results are received
If you have any questions or comments please contact me at our Escalon office at 2091838-3507
Respectfully,
RESNA Industries
Lois Frantz
Staff Geologist
Vul, u- L-Zra
Nora H Kataoka
CA Registered Civil Engineer No 38322
LF/gk
Attachments
PC Nick Kosta, BJJ Trucking
RWQCB - Central Valley Region, Jim Maughan
LR013192 LF
