Environmental
Resources
Management
1277 Treat Boulevard
Suite 500
Walnut Creek,CA 94597
(925)946-0455
(925)946-9968(fax)
28 June 2013
Mr. Harlin Knoll, Senior REHS
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department ERMo
1868 Hazelton Avenue,
Stockton, CA 95205
Subject: Proposed Monitoring Well Abandonments
Dear Mr. Knoll:
ERM-West, Inc. (ERM) has prepared a San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (County) Well Permit Application for
work to be completed at the Former Heinz USA (Heinz) Facility in Tracy,
California (site; Figure 1). The project site is at 757 E Eleventh Street in
Tracy, California. The former underground tank locations associated
with this project are shown on Figure 2.
The scope of work includes the abandonment of eight on-site
groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-8). This work is
being performed to complete the requirements to obtain a "Case Closure
Letter " ("No Further Action Letter") as outlined in the County's letter to
Heinz dated 3 May 2013.
ERM„will oversee the abandonment of the eight ground water
monitoring wells at the site. The well locations are shown on Figures 3
and 4. The wells will be abandoned using over-drilling techniques. Prior
to abandonment, each well will be inspected to ensure no obstructions
exist within the casing. Abandonment activities will consist of over-
drilling each well using 10-inch diameter hollow-stem-augers. The entire
casing of each well will be removed, and the void will be filled to the
bottom with an approved sealing material as per County requirements.
Surfaces will be finished to match the surrounding area.
