Weber Avenue, Third Floor ERM®
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Subject: Response to San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (SJCEHD) Letter dated 26 January 2010
Former Heinz Facility
757 East 11th Street,
Tracy, California
Dear Mr. Knoll:
On behalf of Heinz North America (Heinz), ERM-West, Inc. (ERM) has
prepared this response to your letter dated 26 January 2010 regarding
recommended actions at the former Heinz facility (site) in Tracy,
California. Your letter provided several comments on our report
entitled 2009 Annual Ground Water Monitoring Results, dated 18 January
2010. Each of those comments is provided below in italic print, and our
responses to those comments immediately follow.
Comment 1) Groundznater samples collected 5 November.2009 frown Site T and
Site 2 Iocations reniain impacted by elevated concentrations of TPH-g and
BTEX.
Response to Comment 1) It is true that groundwater concentrations are
elevated relative to drinking water standards in a small number of wells
in the immediate vicinity of the former tank pits. Shallow groundwater
in this area of Tracy is not currently used as a drinking water resource.
It should be noted that the sources of petroleum contamination (the
former underground storage tanks) and the surrounding soils were
excavated in 1998, and that concentrations of hydrocarbon constituents
have greatly decreased (in many cases by several orders of magnitude)
since monitoring began in 1998.
14 <z:-
