Heinz Corporation (Heinz), ERM is pleased to
submit this workplan for additional soil removal and ground water
investigation activities at the former UST sites on the former Heinz
Production Facility in Tracy, California (the site). This letter includes the
scope of the proposed soil removal and investigative work and a detailed
description of each of the proposed activities. Work will be performed
by ERM-Enviroclean, Inc. and will generally consist of additional
excavation of soils from one tank pit, additional dewatering of the tank
pit, collection of new sidewail soil samples, installation of two
monitoring wells, and collection of groundwater samples from each well.
BACKGROUND
After removing two USTs at the site, ERM collected sidewail soil samples
and ground water samples from each excavation. This work was
conducted under the direction of the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (County). After reviewing the
analytical data of soil and ground water samples from the UST
excavations, the County requested that additional remedial measures be
conducted prior to granting closure for these two areas.
i
Following recommendations from the County, ERM conducted
1 additional excavation and sampling of soil from the north, east and west
sidewalls of the excavation for UST #1 (located adjacent to the ramp on
the west side of the building) and from the east and west sidewalls of the
{ excavation for UST #2. Soil samples were also collected from the bottom
f of each excavation at a depth of approximately 10 feet below ground
