Stockton, CA 95201-0988 <br /> Subject: Ground Water Sampling <br /> Former Heinz Facility <br /> Tracy, California <br /> Dear Mr. Knoll: <br /> a <br /> In response to a letter from Mr. Harlin Knoll and Ms. Margaret Lagorio <br /> 1 of the San Joaquin County, Public Health Services, Environmental Health <br /> Division (County) dated 15 June 2000, Environmental Resources <br /> Management (ERM) has prepared this letter on behalf of Heinz USA <br /> (Heinz) to present additional investigation activities at the former Heinz <br /> facility (site) in Tracy, California. <br /> In the letter received, the County stated that the vertical depth of total <br /> petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) and benzene, toluene, <br /> ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) in ground water has not been <br /> determined at two former underground storage tank (UST) locations at <br /> the site. The County requested that a monitoring well screened from 30 <br /> to 35 feet below ground surface (bgs) be installed, developed, and <br /> sampled at each former tank location. <br /> In response to the County's letter, we have reviewed the results of <br /> previous ground water sampling performed at each former tank location <br /> i and believe that sufficient characterization of the depths of impacts at <br /> each former tank site has been performed. <br /> 4 <br /> To address the concerns of the County as discussed during a meeting on <br /> 13 January 1999, ERM submitted a Workplan to the County (22 January <br /> 1999) for performing at-depth soil and groundwater sampling at each <br /> former tank location. In accordance with the Workplan, a HydroPunch <br /> ground water sample was collected at a depth of 10 to 15 feet and 30 to <br /> 33 feet bgs in February 1999 at each former tank location.
