November 1999 at the former Heinz facility (site) in Tracy, California
Groundwater samples were collected exclusively from monitoring well
MW-4 during this sampling event This sampling event was performed
to verify the questionable result that was recorded from the groundwater
sample collected on 28 October 1999 at this location
As you are aware, ERM has performed three rounds of ground water
sampling at the site to evaluate chemical concentrations in groundwater
at two former underground storage tank (UST) release sites following the
injection of oxygen releasing compound (ORC) in June 1999 With the
exception of well MW-4, the concentration of total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylenes (BTEX) have decreased in all chenucal-impacted wells at the site
{ since the ORC injection
The results of samples collected on 28 October 1999 indicated that the
concentration of compounds in MW-4 (located immediately
downgradient of former UST 1) increased during the October sampling
event, and were greater than the concentrations detected prior to ORC
injection As stated in a letter from ERM to the County dated 17
• November 1999, this well has produced results that do not correlate with
any trend and is believed to be impacted from residual soils remaining in
the vicinity of the well Also as stated in the 17 November 1999 letter,
ERM attempted to have the laboratory re-analyze the sample collected
