Environmental
Mr Harlin Knoll Resources
22 January 1999 Management
Page 5
i
To aid in the evaluation of these remedial technologies, ERM proposes to
collect soil samples for laboratory analysis of grain size and total organic
carbon (TOC) The results of these samples will be used in the evaluation
of the potential effectiveness of each remedial technology listed above
One soil sample will be collected for analysis of grain size and TOC
during the installation of HB-17 and HB-20
In addition to the samples described above, ERM proposes to perform
slug testing in existing wells at the site The results of the slug tests will
be used to determine the permeability of the ground water aquifer in the
vicinity of each former UST location This information will be used in the
selection of an appropriate remedial strategy
The slug tests will be performed in monitoring wells MW-4 and MW-6
These wells were selected because they are located within the area where
the highest concentrations of benzene have been detected and therefore
where remediation would occur These wells are also screened at the
• depth where the majority of impacted ground wafter at the site is located
Therefore, any ground water remediation at the site would occur in this
aquifer material
ADDITIONAL ACTIVIITES
In addition to the work described above, ERM will collect a round of
ground water elevation measurements from the existing monitoring
wells at the site These water elevation measurements will be collected
during the advancement of soil borings at the site This information will
be used in the ongoing investigation of the site
SCHEDULE FOR PROPOSED WORK
Upon approval,ERM will commence the proposed scope of work
outlined above ERM anticipates that approval can be obtained from the
County during the week of 25 January 1999 ERM expects that the soil
sampling can be performed during the week of 8 February 1999 ERM
plans to complete the evaluation of ground water remediation
. technologies by the week of 22 February 1999 At this time, ERM will
subnut a work plan to the County and RWQCB describing proposed
ground water remediation activities, if any, for the site
